Path of Exile Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a common and important way to improve the performance of many items in Path of Exile. They can also provide additional damage, AD or even affixes.

Rare-grade equipment is usually superior to modernized Common or Magic gear due to their high demands.

Armor

Armor upgrades are a type of upgrade that can be applied to weapons and armor items. They increase the effectiveness of the item upgrader mod they are connected to. Upgrades to armor are available in the world of the game and can be purchased from Blacksmiths at any bonfire. Additionally, they can be salvaged from items that have upgrade components in them using an expert or greater salvage kit.

The amount of damage that an armored item or weapon can absorb depends on the degree of upgrades. The damage absorption of a piece armor will increase when it's upgraded to the highest upgrade level. It is important to keep in mind that this will increase the weight of the armor, therefore it should be heavier.

There are several different types of armor upgrades available in the game. Each one has a distinct effect. Certain upgrades give armor an additional number of health points while others make it stronger and lighter. The type of armor upgrade that an item can receive is indicated by the name of the upgrade as shown in the table below.

Jewels can be replaced with another jewel without destroying the original. You can only replace the gem once within an item of equipment.

Using more jewels in a move will make it more smooth, and is often used to enhance the aesthetics of the movement. In addition to improving performance, the jewels also create an area that is stronger than metal, which means that repeated friction from pivots won't cause damage as easily.

The first trinket players can unlock is the cloak. It gives a small but beneficial boost in movement speed and the ability to escape. Then, they can purchase amulets, rings and necklaces in the same fashion to how the player obtains armor and weapons. Each piece of equipment comes with one upgrade slot that accepts either a universal or jewel upgrade. Universal upgrades provide smaller bonuses and can be used in any type of equipment while jewelry cannot be changed or upgraded and only works with specific types of trinkets.

These trinkets can also grant bonuses and abilities that are active whenever the hero is not fighting. This allows a hero to become more efficient even when not in combat. It also helps compensate for the absence of excellent slot in the talent tree or team which are usually filled by the hero's Best item upgrader stats.

A good guideline for trinket upgrades is to prioritize BiS (Best item upgrader-in-Slot) items that you won't be replacing soon, followed by items with desirable stats, but less important than the iLevel of the item that is being upgraded. This is particularly true if an item upgrader kit has multiple stats you wish to upgrade, as it's often better to upgrade just one important stat than two sub-optimal ones.

Jungle players will often upgrade their yellow trinkets to a red one prior to the start of the game. Top and mid players, on the other hand, will choose a pink or green ward, depending on the matchup. These choices will have a major impact on the hero's abilities to control maps.
